Richie Tankersley Cusick holds the distinction of being the first Buffy author... twice. Already a bestselling author of young adult works in 1992, she was asked to write the novelization of an upcoming "teen horror comedy" film called Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Working from the screenplay by Joss Whedon, Cusick's book was a strong seller... a fact that was not lost on the publisher, Simon & Schuster.

Five years later, the WB network announces that it is launching a weekly television series based on the earlier film. Simon & Schuster, which still retained the publishing rights to the character, decides to launch an ongoing series of Buffy novels. Once again Richie Tankersley Cusick is called upon, and she condenses the first two episode screenplays (again by Joss Whedon) into a single book, THE HARVEST. Cusick would return one more time to the Buffyverse, by helming the ANGEL CHRONICLES, VOLUME 2.

Among her two dozen or so other (non-Buffy) young adult works are TRICK OR TREAT, TEACHER'S PET, SILENT STALKER and SUMMER OF SECRETS, plus a pair of adult horror novels, SCARECROW and BLOOD ROOTS. Among her latest works have been the UNSEEN series of books. A highly prolific writer for a good many years, by the late 1990s, Richie tapered off her literary output considerably; only in recent years has she been returning to the bookshelves with new works with a semi-regular frequency.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 1, 1952, where she grew up in a house with a ghost, Richie currently resides outside of Kansas City, Missouri with her cocker spaniel, Meg. She has been said to do most of her writing at an antique rolltop desk which belong to a funeral director in the 1800's, which she claims is haunted.
